The “SAFE-R-Safeguarding LGBTIQ+ People’s Right to Health” project has an overarching aim of preventing and addressing instances of health discrimination and stigma against LGBTIQ+ individuals, while promoting equitable healthcare practices in Cyprus that prioritize the rights and well-being of all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Objectives:

  • Assessing the knowledge, attitudes, and needs of approximately 100 health professionals (including medical and nursing students) and 100 LGBTIQ+ people in regard to the provision of healthcare services and information available through quantitative and qualitative research.

  • Improving the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of approximately 100 healthcare professionals and 75 medical & nursing students in regard to the needs of LGBTIQ+ people in the healthcare system, through the creation of training material and the implementation of specialized training to counter stereotyping, stigmatization, pathologization, discrimination, and harassment affecting LGBTIQ+ people.

  • Raising the awareness of relevant stakeholders and the general public of the intersectional discrimination and health inequality experienced by LGBTIQ+ people in Cyprus through the implementation of strategic media and social media campaigns, a series of empowerment sessions with the LGBTIQ+ community, and dissemination events aimed at fostering dialogue and understanding and promoting the LGBTIQ Equality Strategy both within Cyprus and beyond its National context which will reach 500.000 people.
